History of the Department of Languages at TUKE
1952 The Department of Russian Language at the Technical College was set up comprising five Russian language teachers.
The head of the Department was F. Hajdukievič.
1955 The Department was renamed the Department of Languages and a few other foreign languages were offered (English, German, French, and temporarily Spanish).
The Head of the Department was Anna Koščová, later Oľga Kamenová.
1958 - 1964 The Head of the Department was Alexander Štern.
1964 - 1977 The Head of the Department was Anna Ivančová.
The number of teaching staff increased to 16.
Twinning partnership with the Department of Languages of the Mining Academy in Freiberg (GDR) and the Department of Languages of the Technical University of Heavy Industry in Miskolc (Hungary).
Elaboration of textbooks for individual faculties of the Technical College.
Language courses for scientific aspirants.
Slovak language courses for foreign students.
The research focused on lexicography and methodology of language teaching at non-philological faculties.
Translation and interpreting services for the needs of the Rector's Office and individual faculties.
1978 - 1981 The Head of the Department was PhDr. Ján Smarža, later PhDr. Anastázia Liptáková.
1982 - 1989 The Head of the Department was PhDr. JUDr. Ján Savuľák, CSc.
A set of new textbooks was developed.
The Department participated in the research managed by the Ministry of Education.
1990 - 1992 The Head of the Department was Doc. PhDr. Daniela Oroszová, CSc.
Cooperation with foreign lecturers (Germany, Great Britain, USA, Austria).
1993

The Department was renamed to the Department of Humanities (after merging with the Department of Social Sciences). Organizationally, it belonged to the Faculty of Economics.
The Head of the Department was PhDr. Janka Pavlovová, CSc. (until August 2019).
A large number of teachers enrolled in doctoral studies.

1996 The Department was again renamed to the Department of Languages and Social Sciences which comprised two sections (the Section of Languages and the Section of Social sciences).
2000 The Department was divided again and the Sections changed into two separate departments. The Department of Languageswas attached to the TUKE Rector's Office.
Since 1999 the teachers actively participated in projects.
2006 The staff of the Department of Languages of the TUKE Faculty of Aeronautics were attached to the Department of Languages.
September 2019 - August 2021 The Head of the Department was Mgr. Eva Kaščáková, PhD.
Teaching of foreign languages and Slovak as a foreign language at TUKE faculties in Košice, diversification of professional language courses based on the needs of the faculties.
September 2021 – March 2022 The appointed Head of the Department of Languages was PaedDr. Vladimír Harčarik.
January 2022 Due to organisational changes at TUKE, the Department of Languages was abolished and the Department of Languages of the Institute of Languages, Social Sciences and Academic Sports (ÚJSŠ) was established as of January 1, 2022.
April 2022 The Head of the Department of Languages: PhDr Roman Sorger, PhD.
Teaching of foreign languages (English, German) and Slovak language as a foreign language in both faculty compulsory and optional courses.
