Members of the Department are mostly focused at the specifics of professional language, language skills and usage of modern technologies in education. The research results are presented on domestic and foreign conferences, in proceedings and professional journals. Theoretical and practical experience is used to create study materials mainly as part of international cooperation on European projects. The Department is currently working on 5 projects (two Erasmus+ projects, two VEGA projects and one KEGA project).

Project FALINAR (2014-2017) is a coordinator project of the Department, investigators of which are PhDr. Janka Pavlovová, CSc., Mgr. Eva Kaščáková, PhD., Oľga Spišáková, PhDr. Roman Sorger, PhD., and Mgr. Marek Zvirinský, PhD. in cooperation with foreign partners (Institut für Interkulturelle Kommunikation e.V. – Germany, University of Rijeka – Croatia and Bios Life Long Learning Centre – Cyprus). The project focuses on students and teachers of tourism, graduates entering the labour market, employees and multipliers of tourism. The aim is to develop and implement interactive study materials in German language for medicine, security and environment in tourism.

Members of the department are also involved in international project Talented Europe (2015 - 2018). The goal of the project is to develop a platform used as a database and social network for the best students in Europe. Investigators from the Department of languages are Mgr. M. Pľuchtová, Mgr. K. Planetová and Mgr. S. Polakovičová, PhD. Foreign partners are Puerto de la Cruz – Telesforo Bravo – Spain, CIFP César Manrique – Spain, European Projects Association – Belgium and University in Bedfordshire, UK.

The aim of VEGA project Personal and Social Deixis in Slovak Language (2016 – 2019) is the research of linguistic means and communication strategies in selected communication spheres, through which utterance refers to both participants and non-participants of the communication. Responsible investigator of the project is prof. PaedDr. Jana Kesselová, CSc. from Prešov University in Prešov. Investigators from the Department of languages are PhDr. Alexandra Brestovičová, PhD. and Mgr. Milada Walková, PhD.

The second VEGA project, on which members of the Department collaborate, is Research and Development of New Progressive Non-destructive Testing Approaches for Detecting and Analysis of Internal Structures Damage of Steel Cord and Rubber-conveyor Belts Using Experimental and Simulation Methods (2016 – 2019). The responsible investigator is prof. Ing. Gabriel Fedorko, PhD. from Faculty of Mining, Ecology, Process Control and Geotechnologies at Technical University of Košice. Investigators from Department of Languages are PhDr. Beáta Czéreová, Mgr. Ľudmila Petríková and PhDr. Hedviga Semanová, PhD.

Project KEGA The education of university students with technical specialization for global labour market’s needs (2016 – 2018) with principal investigator PhDr. Daniela Hrehová, PhD. from the Department of Social Sciences at Technical University of Košice. Investigators from the Department of languages are Mgr. Tomáš Ilečko, PhD. and PhDr. Roman Sorger, PhD. The aim of the project is to create and establish an all-university interdisciplinary practically oriented subject Forming of competencies for the needs of the global labour market with emphasis on business activities for non-economists.
